David J. Proia, 67, of Syracuse went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 22nd. David was born in Syracuse and grew up in Eastwood attending Henninger High School. David had a passion for cars and worked in the car industry most of his life in many local dealerships, as well as out of state dealerships including Rolls-Royce in Miami and Las Vegas. He retired as a claims adjuster from AIG. He was an accomplished photographer and owned his own photography studio for many years where he specialized in wedding photography and family portraits. A musician himself, after his retirement and returning to Syracuse he became very active in the local music scene and was often seen with his camera providing outstanding photography for local musicians, The Sammys, Winterfest and Dinosaur Radio music events. He loved spending time with his friends and family and was loved by all who knew him. David had a passion for many things but his favorite by far was riding his Harley, either with Joanna or with his best friends and riding buddies and he logged thousands of miles every year on two wheels. Godspeed David (Vegas Dave). David is predeceased by his parents, Mario and Raffale (Mairoano) Proia and his brother, Paul Proia. He is survived by his fiancée, Joanna Sohovic-Urban; his children, Jennifer Proia, Mathew Proia, Joseph Proia, and Raphael Lopez and his beautiful grandsons, Antonio and Nicholas Lopez along with several cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 28th, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at FARONE & SON Inc Funeral Home, 1500 Park Street, Syracuse. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 1st, 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home and 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
