September 27, 1938 - April 24, 2021
Ella Louise McGrew, affectionately known as “Nana” to many, was a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, sister, niece, cousin, and dear friend. Ella was born Ella Moore to the late Audrey Spencer and William Moore on September 27, 1938, in Harlem, NY. She transitioned on April 24th, 2021 in Syracuse, NY. She was educated in the New York State public school system and worked as a carpenter for many years As a child, Ella and her sister, the late Audrey “Bootsie” Spencer, were thick as thieves and could often be seen getting each other in and out of mischief. Ella and her brother, the late William “Willie Boy” Butler, were like two peas in a pod, always sharing a laugh about stories from the past. Ella was the type of mother who would do anything for her children. Ella was a nurturing, humorous, and fun grandmother who loved unconditionally. At her happiest, Ella could be found around a card table with family and friends when she wasn't enjoying episodes of Law and Order and Paternity Court. She is predeceased by her sons, James and Freddie McGrew and son in law, David Picnckney, Jr. Ella is survived by her oldest daughter, Louise McGrew, middle daughter, Lois Pinckney, and youngest daughter, Delores McGrew (Rick Brown); son, Gregory McGrew; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 7th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at FARONE & SON, Inc. Funeral Home, 1500 Park Street. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
