Emma L. Moore, 79, of Syracuse, passed away on October 27th. She was born in Baltimore, MD and lived in Syracuse for over 40 years. Emma was a former government employee of General Services Administration where she worked for 35 years and retired as a Building Operations Manager. She was predeceased by her husband, Lemuel Moore; son, Roger Hooks, Jr.; daughter, Valerie Morris; her parents, Bishop Calvin Whitley and Preddie Belle Whitley; and sister, Virginia Ann Thompson. Emma is survived by her son, Vaughn L. Hooks of Syracuse; daughter, Vernell A. Moore of Syracuse; son-in-law, Michael Morris, Sr. of Syracuse; grandchildren, Valonda Hooks, Michele Morris, Michael Morris, Trezure Stackhouse, and Ellis Williams all of Syracuse, and Ashley Hooks of Philadelphia; great granddaughter, Shanye Kearse, siblings, Katherine Whitley of Syracuse, Charles Whitley (Clarese) of Philadelphia, Callie Ellis (Rev. Louis Jr.) of Philadelphia, Anita Wynne of Philadelphia, Barbara Jean Whitley of Syracuse, Marvin Whitley (Cynthia) of Syracuse, and Kenneth Whitley of Syracuse; best friends, Syvella Dubose of New Jeresy and Elma Neal of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 5th, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, 515 Oakwood Avenue, Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
