Gilda “Jill” (Mellace) Danial, 94, of Syracuse, entered into rest peacefully at Iroquois Nursing Home on Friday, shortly after her children and grandchildren gathered together for a virtual call of singing, praying, and recalling her life memories. She was a life resident of Syracuse and graduated from North High School. A longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church where, along with her husband Sam, of 59 years, devoted years of being a good steward. She was involved in many church activities in addition to being a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Jill was a loyal SU football and basketball fan and attended many games throughout the years. She loved cooking for her family, working in her vegetable garden, bowling with her lady friends, canning tomatoes, and vacationing in Florida. Her true joy in life was spending time with her beloved husband and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout the years. She was predeceased by her parents Anthony and Frances Mellace; husband, Samuel J. Danial; and sister, Connie (Frank) Nigro. Surviving are her children, Anthony J. (Arline) Danial, of East Aurora, NY, Michael J. (Amy) Danial, of Liverpool, and Lori J. (Frank) Lazipone, of Syracuse; sister, Gloria Mellace, of Boca Raton FL; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church on Wednesday, December 23rd at 11:30 a.m. To attend the service remotely, visit Jill’s tribute page on the funeral home’s website, www.faroneandsoninc.com at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Jill will be laid to rest at Onondaga Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery alongside her husband. The exceptional care given to Jill over the past 10 months by all the staff at Iroquois during this pandemic has brought such comfort to our family. They were like her second family and we felt she was truly loved and well taken care of. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all who cared for her.
