Mary (Rao) Gilmour, 94, of Syracuse, passed away Monday at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Mary was fond of crafting which included stained glass, sewing, and crocheting. Her family still enjoys many of the pieces she made around their homes. Mary was a great cook and baker. Her family enjoyed her homemade sauce so much that her daughter, Kathy, referred to it as “nectar of the Gods”. She was always on the go, whether it was day trips to the wine country, a casino or traveling to visit her family. Highlights of her travels were to Italy with her daughter Debbie and to Puerto Rico with her son Bill to attend his daughter’s wedding. Everyone who met her loved her. She will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Gilmour, Jr. in 1985 and siblings, Dominick Rao, Anna Marra, Rose Goodison, John Rao, Vincent Rao, and Theresa Chipperfield. Mary is survived by her children, James E. Gilmour III, of New Mexico, William Gilmour, of Syracuse, Deborah Gilmour (Max Yorgancioglu), of Portland, Maine and Kathleen (Walter) Reid, of Canastota; sisters, Minnie Cavanaugh and Jeanette Lozeau; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, December 30th from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at FARONE & SON, Inc. Funeral Home, 1500 Park Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Humane Society of Central New York. To attend the service remotely, visit the funeral home's website under Mary's tribute page at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
