Nicola "Nick" L. Caruso

Nicola “Nick” L. Caruso, 90, of Tully, NY, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022. Nick received his Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University. He founded Associated Architects of Syracuse and was responsible for the design of over 4000 buildings throughout the Northeast. He was licensed to practice architecture in 6 states. After retiring in 1995, he founded Casa Caruso in Oaxaca, Mexico, and made it into a world-renowned hotel. It was praised by numerous leading international travel guides. He received a doctorate in Philosophy, majoring in religious studies in 2000. He did considerable charitable work, especially with the indigenous Indians of Southern Mexico. In 2007 he wrote his memoirs …”and after this our exile”… Nick served on the Board of Directors of the Syracuse Regent Theatre (now Syracuse Stage) and the Syracuse Chorale. He restored many of the fine mansions in the Syracuse area. He is survived by his three sons, Laurence and Richard of Tully, and Leonardo of Boston; his daughter, Maria (Sinopoli) of Manlius; brother, John of Florida and his family.
