Shirley F. Scali

July 7, 1936 - January 6, 2021

Shirley F. Scali, 84, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. A life resident of Syracuse, Shirley worked for Merchants National Bank and retired from Gallinger Real Estate where she worked for over 25 years. Shirley was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy. She was a member of the American Legion Eastwood Post 1276, the American Italian Heritage Club, Blessed Sacrament Golden Agers, Eastwood Senior Community Center and a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church and Blessed Sacrament Church. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas M. Scali; and her parents, John and Fannie Lipari. Shirley is survived by her devoted daughters, Marie (Tony) Ianno of E. Syracuse, Laura (Dennis) Normoyle of Liverpool, and Linda Capria of North Syracuse; as well as two granddaughters, Stefania Ianno and Nicholle Capria; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many cousins, including Ronald Nuzzo, Otto Densk and Joanne Flood. Shirley met her husband Nick in her teen years, and it was love at first sight. They were married for 58 years. Shirley enjoyed gardening and could make any plant grow and prosper. She loved flowers, music, reading, cooking and spending time with family, especially her granddaughters. She never missed an event for her grandchildren and loved Festa Italiano, the holidays and spending time with her neighborhood friends. Shirley’s family would like to thank all her caregivers, at Elderwood, and especially the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s hospital who most recently cared for her. Calling hours and burial services will be private. Please join Shirley’s family for a mass on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompei /St. Peter Church. To attend the service remotely, visit the funeral home's website under Shirley's tribute page at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
